The Patron Saint wine packaging stands out with its innovative design and attention to detail. The packaging features illustrations of the four patron saints, each representing a different bottle of rice wine. The use of anthropomorphic methods and elements from Chinese opera breathes new life into these ancient characters, making them more relatable and appealing to a modern audience.
The design process involved a combination of printing techniques, including silver foil paper, matt lamination, UV coating, hot stamping, and painting on glass bottles. The outer box is meticulously crafted, with hollowed-out sections corresponding to the illustrations on the inner box, creating a layered effect that adds to the overall visual appeal.
Measuring at 220mm x 160mm x 160mm, the outer box is designed to showcase the unique and exquisite bottles of rice wine. The attention to detail and the use of high-quality materials make the packaging not only visually stunning but also durable.
One of the main challenges faced during the design process was striking a balance between intricate details and cost-effectiveness. The team had to carefully consider the materials and printing processes to ensure the best possible outcome while controlling costs.
The Patron Saint wine packaging is not only a visual delight but also a testament to the designer's research and understanding of Chinese culture. The aim was to elevate the perception of traditional rice wine, which is known for its high quality but often packaged in a rough and inferior manner. By incorporating elements of Chinese fashion and culture, the packaging design aims to change the perception of rice wine among modern young people and promote a deeper appreciation for Chinese traditions.
The project, which started in September 2019 and concluded in February 2020, was carried out in Changsha, China. The design team, led by Lynn Tsang as the Design Director and Sha Shen as the Designer, dedicated their efforts to creating a packaging design that would capture the essence of Chinese culture and appeal to a contemporary audience.
The Patron Saint wine packaging has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2020, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life. The Patron Saint wine packaging stands as a testament to the fusion of art, science, design, and technology, making it a worthy recipient of this accolade.
